IOTEFL may publish suspensions, withdrawals, restrictions, conditions or other significant status updates where disclosure is necessary to protect learners, employers, institutions and users of the public registry.
Published information is limited to what is relevant, proportionate and supported by the applicable decision process.
How IOTEFL records may be classified
Status labels indicate whether a credential may currently be relied upon and whether any restrictions apply.
Active
The accreditation or certification is current and may be relied upon within its published scope.
Active with Conditions
Status remains active subject to specified actions, restrictions, evidence deadlines or enhanced monitoring.
Suspended
Status is temporarily inactive while concerns, corrective actions or review procedures are unresolved.
Withdrawn or Expired
Status is no longer active because it was withdrawn, not renewed, expired or otherwise formally ended.
Grounds for sanctions or status restrictions
Actions are proportionate to the evidence, seriousness of the concern and risk to learners or the public.
False or Misleading Claims
Misrepresentation of qualifications, accreditation, certification, registry status or educational outcomes.
Serious Standards Failure
Material or systemic non-compliance with curriculum, staffing, assessment, governance or quality-assurance requirements.
Learner Protection Concerns
Safeguarding, exploitation, discrimination, unsafe delivery or other serious learner-welfare risks.
Failure to Cooperate
Refusal to provide evidence, obstruction of review, failure to report material changes or disregard of corrective action.

Decision-making and review
Before a material sanction or status change is finalised, the affected member should normally receive:
- Notice of the concern or proposed action
- An opportunity to provide evidence or clarification
- A reasonable period to respond, where appropriate
- A written decision and stated reasons
- Information about review or appeal rights
How notices are managed
Published notices may identify the record, current status, effective date, scope of restriction and any relevant review date.
- Information is limited to what is necessary and proportionate
- Notices may be updated when circumstances change
- Reinstatement or expiry of restrictions may be recorded
- Historic information may be retained where required for registry integrity
Important verification notice
Always review the current registry entry before relying on an IOTEFL credential. A certificate or badge presented without a matching active public record may be expired, suspended, withdrawn, altered or unauthorised. Suspected misuse should be reported to support@iotefl.org.
